Property
Galley Cottage is one of a pair of detached executive properties built in 1994. The residence has been recently refreshed, including a refitted shower room, redecoration, neutral carpets and new fixtures and fittings. There’s a more traditional feel here, from aspects such as dado rails, coving, brass details and leaded windows.
Internally is sizeable accommodation surpassing 2700sqft, with versatile reception rooms that will work well for a range of lifestyles. Families in particular are spoilt for space at Galley Cottage. There’s a large lounge to the left of the home, where everyone can gather together in front of the open fireplace, which acts not only as a focal point, but also a wonderful source of warmth in the wintry months. The exposed brick brings character to the room as well.
The dining room in the centre of the property is ideal for hosting dinner parties, next to the kitchen for bringing dishes through. If not needed for formal dining, this has potential as a playroom for little ones or a snug space for teenagers. It’s fit for the future and can be easily adapted as the years go by and children grow up. For those who work from home, there’s an office at the front of the house, tucked away in the corner for some seclusion.
The kitchen/breakfast room at the back of the house is again traditional, with wooden cabinetry and laminate worktops. Splashbacks are tiled in a brick style, the floor in black and white. Gaps are available for appliances, and a new sink and hob have been fitted. The adjoining utility has a secondary sink, more storage, plus gaps for further appliances. A door from the utility opens into the garage.
Providing extra accommodation is the conservatory, accessed via double doors from both the lounge and the dining room. This is an expansive space, currently laid out for dining one side, relaxing the other. It’s a lovely spot to sit and read in the sunlight that streams in, and there’s also a ceiling fan to keep the room cool. Double doors open onto the patio for uniting inside with out, perfect for garden parties.
Upstairs, Galley Cottage offers five double bedrooms. The primary has the advantage of a dressing area and an en suite bathroom, bedroom two has another en suite bathroom, and bedrooms three to five share the shower room. Bedrooms four and five have the benefit of outlooks over fields, while bedrooms one and two have a range of fitted furniture affording ample storage. Storage is available elsewhere at the home, including to an understairs cupboard, an airing cupboard, and in the eaves, the loft and the double garage.
Plot
The plot at Galley Cottage is approximately 0.7 acres, including gardens, gated driveways, a double garage and a stable block.
The rear garden is a great size, predominately lawned for playing football and cricket, and with a very generous patio for plenty of outdoor seating. The setting is private, leafy, with mostly fields surrounding it. Much of the fencing has been recently replaced, and mature trees run along the perimeter, with a willow the star of the show.
Birches line the block-paved driveway to the stable block, which consists of four stables and two further rooms. These two rooms have power and would work as offices. The driveway within the rear garden allows for both cars and horseboxes.
To the front of the house is a lawned area, more mature trees and plants, and an enclosure for the gas tank. The oil tank enclosure is to the side of the house.
Position
Galley Cottage is located in Great Brickhill, on the outskirts of the city. On the other side of Galley Lane is an equestrian centre, and fields, farmland and forest are all around. On the doorstep are greenspaces such as Brickhill Woods, Rushmere Country Park and Aspley Heath, and Milton Keynes is known for its lakes.
While there’s a good selection of amenities and facilities in Great Brickhill, Milton Keynes city centre presents comprehensive retail, a wide choice of places to eat and drink, and diverse entertainment. There’s something for everyone, from skiing, snowboarding and ice skating, to comedy, drama and music. Families have schooling for all ages and extracurricular activities in abundance, and Cranfield University is only 20 minutes away.
Access into London from Galley Cottage is easy. Milton Keynes Central and Leighton Buzzard stations are both about a 10-minute drive away, and commuter rail services from these reach Euston in around half an hour. The A5 is a couple of minutes from the front door, you can be on the M1 in under 15 minutes, and Luton is the closest airport.
